A distribution transformer, abbreviated as "distribution transformer," is a stationary electrical device used in power distribution systems to convert AC voltage and current according to the law of electromagnetic induction to transmit AC power. The location and place where a distribution transformer is installed is a substation. Distribution transformers are preferably pole-mounted or floor-mounted in the open air. This article details their installation methods, installation precautions, supply and distribution methods, capacity selection, operation and maintenance, etc.

A distribution transformer is a stationary electrical device used in power distribution systems to convert AC voltage and current according to the law of electromagnetic induction to transmit AC power. Chinese transformers are generally categorized by voltage level into ultra-high voltage (750kV and above), extra-high voltage (500kV), 220-110kV, and 35kV and below. Distribution transformers typically operate in distribution networks with voltage levels of 10-35kV and capacities of 6300kVA and below, directly supplying power to end users.

A distribution power transformer is a stationary electrical device used to convert a given AC voltage (current) into one or more different voltages (currents) of the same frequency. When alternating current flows through the primary winding, an alternating magnetic flux is generated. This alternating magnetic flux, through the magnetic conductivity of the iron core, induces an alternating electromotive force in the secondary winding. The magnitude of the secondary induced electromotive force is related to the number of turns in the primary and secondary windings; that is, the voltage is proportional to the number of turns. Its primary function is to transmit electrical energy, so its primary parameter is rated capacity. Rated capacity is a conventional value that represents power, indicating the amount of electrical energy transmitted. It is expressed in kVA or MVA. When the rated voltage is applied to the transformer, it is used to determine the rated current that does not exceed the temperature rise limit under specified conditions. Amorphous alloy core distribution transformers are the most energy-efficient power transformers. Their greatest advantage is their extremely low no-load losses.
